What are your goals?

Serious question. What are your goals? If you’re not sure, think about what values, skills and interest you have as you look ahead to life after high school. Attending a 2-year or 4-year college can help you reach those goals. According to the College Scorecard, students who graduate from college earn on average $1,000,000 more than those with just a high school diploma. That’s something to value! When comes to setting goals we typically break them into two categories, long-term and short-term.

Short-term Goals

These are the goals that you want to accomplish in a short amount of time. The time it takes you to complete these goals can take a year. Some examples of this would be “completing this academic year with a 4.0 GPA,” “join an extracurricular activity” or “post two youtube videos a week for the next six months” etc.

Long-Term Goals

Long-term goals can take a couple of years or more to accomplish. Some examples of these goals could be “graduate from college with a degree in electrical engineering,” “become a heart surgeon,” or “Play in the NFL.”

In the comment section below, list 3 short-term and long-term goals, and how college can help you reach those goals.

Something Extra

Write your goals down on a sheet of paper and put them in a safe place. Research shows that when you write things down you are more likely to get things done.

one short goal is to pass my dual enrollment class with a B average and above. Another short-term goal is to stay on the honor roll for my last 4 months of high school. My last short-term goal is to make sure I go to college in August. A long-term goal is to make sure I stay in college. Also keep up with my good grades.
